I am a first generation Cuban American born in 1975 in Miami, Florida.  I have been an artist since I was very young.  I was in the magnet program in primary school for art until I was the second student selected in the auditions for the admission to the prestigious New World School of the Arts high school in Miami.  I had a great experience and learned to perfect my talent in different media and found my love for drawing here.  The environment was inspiring, engaging and challenging.  I graduated in 1993 and was awarded a $30,000 art scholarship to the Cleveland Institute of Art and was placed in the second year fine arts program.  This university was focused on industrial design and after two years I was reminded of my love of painting and mixed media and moved back to Miami and graduated from the New World School of the Arts College in 1998.  In order to continue working within the art field, I created my own mural business where I create custom designed murals in residences and businesses. I am also a freelance graphic artist and create advertisement and websites.

My Sketchbook Series (1993-1998) is reminiscent of the Latin American murals representing class struggles, the church being a predominant force but also the fear of the unknown.  I explore characters that are withdrawn, outraged and social outcasts.

My early works were inspired by the beauty and complexity of the female form.  My work titled Winds Loves Her Blue (2001) captures the innocence and beauty where I choose to incorporate the color blue which represents subtle melancholy.  In these works, I explored the naked vulnerability and prowess of sexuality.  My lines are expressive and powerful to distort reality for emotional effect.

In The Jewel Series (2005), I explore the mysterious erotic area of my psyche as a reflection of unconscious desires and motivations.  I  transitioned into the intangible imagery of birds that symbolizes spirituality and transformation.  This transition led to The Conversation Series (2005) which are circular to represent the flow of time in the universe.  This balance of time and space coexist with the metaphorical freedom of birds.

My projects are often dominated by the elements of nature and the inspiration which arose from periods of struggle is what I would like to inspire in others with my work that there is more to life than meets the eye.
